How moinAI ensures compliance with the German Accessibility Enhancement Act

The German Accessibility Enhancement Act (BFSG) aims to make digital services and company websites barrier-free. This ensures that they are accessible, understandable and can be experienced by everyone.

Optimisations for barrier-free use

moinAI uses three levers to implement the German Accessibility Enhancement Act:

  1. Alt text
  2. Colour contrast
  3. Simple language

The following explains how the optimisations for barrier-free use are implemented.

Alt text

Alt text stands for alternative text. Alt text describes non-text content such as images or buttons on the website. They are not visible to the eye on the website. Screen readers can read out alt text. This enables more people, for example visually impaired people, to access all the content on the website.

Alt texts are set in the editor. The corresponding graphic element is selected via the PLUS button.

Image, video or slide can then be selected.

To create the alt text, the corresponding settings area must be opened in the next step. For slides, simply click on the three-dot menu → Edit

The corresponding input mask then opens, in which you can add the alt text. Then click on save to save the changes.

For videos and images, simply click on upload file. The input mask for the alt text then opens.

If an alt text has been inserted, click on save to save the adjustments.

Colour contrast

Colour contrast is the difference between different shades of colour. The greater the colour contrast, the better the individual contents can be recognised. The colour contrast makes texts easier to read and helps content to be understood more quickly.

In the Widget & Teaser menu item, click on Widget Appearance.

Scroll to the Customize elements section to view the colour contrast and adjust it for accessibility in accordance with WCAG 2.1. Depending on the selected setting, a note on the colour contrast appears. You can also obtain further information on WCAG 2.1 guidelines by clicking on the Color contrast according WCAG 2.1 or Colour contrast no WCAG 2.1 button.

Simple Language

Simple language is a simplified version of everyday language. It refrains from using foreign words and abbreviations and uses short, simple sentence structures.

AI agents can provide content in simple language. Adaptation takes place either via an instruction or editorial content.

  1. Instruction: In the Knowledge Base menu item, click on RAG . Then click on create under Instructions (Note: If instructions are already stored, edit is displayed instead of create).

A new window opens in which you can add the instruction, e.g. ‘Please formulate your answers in simple language only.’ and then click on save.

  2. Editorial content: You can manually write and integrate editorial content in simple language. To do this, click on AI agent settings in the Bot settings menu item.

Then scroll to the Communication rules section and write a new rule such as ‘Use simple language’ in the empty field. Then click on the PLUS sign or press ENTER on the keyboard to add the rule.

The rule moves to the top and there is now a rubbish bin icon where the PLUS was. To save the rule, click on the disc icon at the top of the page.
